Bad ReligionMONDAY
It’s easy to take potshots at the wide-eyed enthusiasm of YACHT, what with its insistence on the capitalization of its name, obsessing over the power of triangles and purporting how the electro-duo is “not a cult.” While the tone of its website might read like a discarded pamphlet found on the subway, the band’s last album, the excellent See Mystery Lights, makes the crazy go down easy. To help its fans achieve transcendence, YACHT will soon be releasing a new album entitled Shangri-La and those looking to be saved best get themselves to the Black Cat. With Light Asylum and Jeffrey Jerusalem, who plays in YACHT’s band “The Straight Gaze.” 8:00 p.m. $15.
>> The Red Palace: The Fresh and Onlys, Crocodiles, Young Prisms. 8:30 p.m. $12.
TUESDAY
You’ve got to hand it to Bad Religion: they are willing to humble themselves. The California punk mainstays have seen a lot of bands and trends come and go in its 30-year tenure, many of whom they’ve graciously opened for. In the early aughts, the band provided the introductory noise to Blink-182’s ‘Mark, Tom and Travis Show,’ when that band was at its potty-humored peak. Tonight, Bad Religion will warm up the 9:30 Club for the far less dynamic Rise Against, who despite some cross-over rock radio success, have yet to break through the mall-punk glass ceiling. Four Year Strong opens. 6:30 p.m. Sold out.
>> Black Cat: Low, Bellflur. 8:00 p.m. $18.
WEDNESDAY
When D.C. music writers aren’t spending every waking moment writing about The Dismemberment Plan, chances are we’re exalting the sweaty glory of Titus Andronicus, who just graced us with a visit last month opening for The Pogues. On Wednesday, they’ll be at the Black Cat with a formidable partner in crime in Baltimore’s Double Dagger, who have plenty of experience whipping District audiences into a frenzy. With Dinowalrus. 8:00 p.m. Sold out.
>> Black Cat (Backstage): Dave Hause, Mikey Erg, Ian Graham. 8:00 p.m. $10.
>> The Red Palace: LAKE, AgesandAges, The Mean Season. 8:30 p.m. $10.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: J Roddy and The Business, Deleted Scenes. 8:30 p.m. $10.
>> 9:30: Yelle, French Horn Rebellion. 10:00 p.m. $20.
THURSDAY
It’s rare that our humble non-state is graced with so many worthwhile options on a Thursday, and you’d do well to head out to any of this evening’s shows. Arguably, the most noteworthy is over at Red Palace with Brooklyn’s Parts & Labor, whose scuzzy electro-anthems continue to go under-appreciated, a trend continued with the universal shrugs that greeted its latest, Constant Future. Local stalwarts Hume and Meta (featuring members of Laughing Man) round out the intriguing bill. 8:30 p.m. $8.
>> 9:30: Of Montreal, Painted Palms. 7:00 p.m. $25.
>> Velvet Lounge: Tereu Tereu, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Bars of Gold, Monument. 8:00 p.m. $8.
>> U Street Music Hall: Dirty Vegas. 8:00 p.m. $12.
FRIDAY
One of the more improbable club acts of recent years, The Dan Band continues to stretch its paper-thin, one note premise — profanity-laden covers of female fronted pop songs — into a seemingly sustainable career. Those looking to begin their Friday night with some raunchy Katy Perry covers should head to the 9:30 Club. 7:00 p.m. $30.
>> U Street Music Hall: Matthew Dear (DJ Set). Free before 11:00 p.m, $10 after.
The Strokes: Mastering the art of looking skillfully bored 10 years runningSATURDAY
It’s been a minute since the halcyon days of Peter, Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks,” a song that launched a thousand cell-phone ads and off-beat romantic comedy trailers. The band continues to soldier on, having secured a licensing cash cow enabling them to record new albums for as long as they’re interested. Its latest is entitled Gimmie Some. Bacherlotte opens at 9:30 Club. 7:00 p.m. $25.
>> Black Cat: Buffalo Tom, Mean Creek. 9:00 p.m. $20.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: The Appleseed Cast, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Edie Sedgwick, Pianos Become the Teeth. 9:00 p.m. $15.
>> Iota: The Cassettes, Drawbridges. 8:30 p.m. $12.
SUNDAY
Much has been made of the Sweetlife Festival’s expansive leap from a Hot Chip DJ set in a Dupont parking lot to an all-day event at Merriweather Post Pavilion. And yet, those purveyors of arugula over at Sweetgreen certainly have their demographic pegged, since the festival’s line-up reads like a playlist at an Urban Outfitters listening center: Girl Talk, Crystal Castles, Ra Ra Riot, Cold War Kids. Headlining the day will be The Strokes, whose affiliation to salad is unknown; but given lead singer Julian Casablanca’s recent move to California, it’s likely to be positive. 12:00 p.m. $55.
>> Black Cat: Pinback, Judgement Day. 8:00 p.m. $15.
