Was your commute around Union Station a bit tougher than usual this morning? Earlier today, access to the station was temporarily blocked due to the investigation of a suspicious package which appeared on the 600 block of 1st Street NE. The emergency response also blocked off several major arterial streets around the station — including Massachusetts Avenue, Columbus Circle and Louisiana Avenue — and forced detours along Circulator routes; Metro and Amtrak were not affected by the investigation. The package ended up being an unattended bag, and the scene was cleared around 8 a.m.
