Do you find yourself bored by staid architecture around Washington, D.C.? If so, you’ll probably love the new renderings for two high-profile developments in the West End.

As reported by both UrbanTurf and DCMetrocentric, residents at an ANC meeting on Monday night got a peek at the latest designs for the condo/library development on the 2300 block of L Street NW (above) and the affordable housing/firehouse project at 23rd and M Streets NW (below). The projects, which are being built by Eastbanc and TEN Arquitectos, are both scheduled to break ground in late 2012, with delivery coming in 2015.

While the designs are ambitious, they don’t feel quite as out of place as they once may have, especially with the somewhat glassy Square 54 nearing completion down the street. Then again, we can also imagine locals who live in century-old, three story rowhouses having some trouble seeing how the shape will fit in with the feel of the neighborhood. (Of course, when you live in a neighborhood that’s surrounded by large office buildings, there’s probably not very much validity to such claims.) What do you think?
