Last night, the Washington Redskins took their mind off of their owner’s lawsuit against local journalists and their defensive tackle’s alleged sex crime, and conducted some football-related business, selecting Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan with the 16th selection of the NFL Draft. (The Redskins originally had the 10th pick in the first round, but swung a trade with Jacksonville that netted them an extra pick in the second round — which, considering the recent history of the team’s front office, is fairly inspired move.)
Now, your editor is hardly a connoisseur of Purdue football, but thankfully we have YouTube, a site which is not suffering from a lack of epically-scored Kerrigan highlight videos. Now, it’s not quite the ESPN package which featured Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo hitting things with a sledgehammer and lifting chains before the team selected him in 2009, but the above footage does prove that Kerrigan is a fairly competent athlete, as you’d probably expect any 6-foot-3, 267 pound man who can run 40 yards in 4.71 seconds to be.
