Last weekend, we noted a protest which had been lodged against the liquor license renewal for Bladensburg Road NE bar Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club. Despite that protest, a spokesperson for the club informs DCist that things are operating as usual at the club, and there are no plans for the bar to stop serving its customers anytime soon.

“The renewal for JVLHC’s Liquor License was not denied” by the city’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration, explains Jimmy Valentine’s spokesperson Jennifer Jackson. “Specifically, the Application for Renewal was dismissed, and JVLHC simply reapplied for renewal by signing a one-and-half-page form.” According to Jackson, neither the bar nor its proprietors are facing any sanctions from ABRA. According to Jackson, who attended the hearing where the application was dismissed, the protests — lodged by a group of five people including Kathy Henderson — were rendered moot after the compaints were “found baseless…and subsequently dismissed” by the regulatory board. (The same group of individuals had also contested the bar’s initial application for their tavern license and other previous renewals, with similar results.)

Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club will celebrate its four-year anniversary at the end of May.
