TUESDAY: Amateur filmmakers spent a whirlwind weekend creating their entries for this year’s 48 Hour Film Project. Yesterday they turned in their films, and you can watch them this Tuesday through Friday at the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). On Tuesday, catch film Group A at 7 p.m. and and film Group B at 9:30 p.m. $11 each.
WEDNESDAY: An Evening in Amazonia, the latest Mingle at the Museum event at the National Zoo (3001 Connecticut Avenue NW), has sold out. But they’re accepting wait list entries (call 202-633-3030), if you want to take your chances on this night of walking through the rainforest, samba demonstrations, food and drink. 6:30-9 p.m. $50.
THURSDAY: Eric Ripert, chef, restaurateur and regular guest judge on Top Chef, comes to Hill’s Kitchen (713 D Street SE) to sign copies of his new book Avec Eric: A Culinary Adventure with Eric Ripert and prove he’s better looking than Anthony Bourdain. 6 p.m.
FRIDAY: Peruse the National Cathedral’s (Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues NW) 71st Flower Mart, offering 90 vendors (food, gifts, horticulture) along with live dance and musical performances (including Elisabeth von Trapp — yep, of those von Trapps), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. SATURDAY: Reuse your Royal Wedding hats and pour yourself a Mint Julep — it’s Kentucky Derby time.
From 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, both of Bourbon’s locations in Glover Park (2348 Wisconsin Avenue NW) and Adams Morgan (2321 18th Street NW) will be pouring Derby drinks and offering complimentary Kentucky cuisine at their Run for the Roses events. Meanwhile, the Kentucky Derby 137 LIVE at Eatonville (2121 14th Street NW) is an all-day event which will feature the race on the big screen and a best hat competition.
SUNDAY: Don’t forget, Sunday is Mother’s Day! Before you grab brunch with Mom, free up some calories by running together in the Mother’s Day 5K Dash through Rock Creek Park. 8 a.m. $40.
