D.C. is an expensive town to drink craft beer in. Yes, we do have a better selection than a lot of other cities, but that selection comes at a cost. Sites like Living Social and Groupon do have the occasional offer that gets us a quality pint on the cheap, but overall, you’ll be hard pressed to find any deals at most of the city’s best craft-centered bars.

So it pleases me to let you know that prayers to my patron saints have been answered: GoFivo is a novel way to get great beers for a great price. While those other sites make you pay upfront for a coupon with an expiration date — who hasn’t either let a deal expire or trudgingly went out to use it because they had already bought it? — GoFivo lets you set up alerts for what you want and lets you enjoy it in real time. After setting up the types of alerts you want, you get notified of the deal either by text or email and simply claim it to drink in the tasty comeuppance.

While GoFivo has lots of other deals, I really appreciate how you can cater it specifically to your uses. No more deals on cat sitting or underwater basket weaving classes clogging my inbox make this beer lover very happy. Instead, I get alerts about half-price beers at places like (but certainly not limited to) Iron Horse, Dixie Liquor, Comet Ping Pong, or The Pug. No having to plan ahead. No waiting for the coupon. No awesome deals in places you would never trek out to. You say the neighborhoods; you choose the kinds of places to go to.

And for real icing on the cake, they’re are having a little contest for the last two tickets to Savor, the Brewers Association’s premiere craft beer and food pairing event held at the National Building Museum in June. Over the next month, every time you go to one of the contest’s events, not only do you get a good deal on beer, but you also get entered into the contest. So the more of these you go to, the more chances you have to win a pair of Savor tickets.
