MOVIES: Amateur filmmakers spent a whirlwind weekend creating their entries for this year’s 48 Hour Film Project. This past Sunday, they turned in their films, and you can watch them all tonight through Friday at the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). Tonight, there are screenings of the first two groups: catch Group A at 7 p.m. and and Group B at 9:30 p.m. $11 each.

>> Travel to the year 2247 and hunt down zombie-like creatures with Jack Deth in the 1985 flick Trancers tonight at the Washington Psychotronic Film Society’s screening at The Passenger (1021 7th Street NW). 8 p.m. Free, but a $2 donation is suggested.

MUSIC: Talib Kweli brings “fluid, erudite rhymes from his latest release, Gutter Rainbows” to the Black Cat
(1811 14th Street NW) tonight. Indie rapper Jean Grae also performs. 8 p.m. $20 in advance / $25 at the door.

>> Diego Garcia (Elefant) and Dan Scheuerman (Deleted Scenes) take the stage at DC9 (1940 9th Street NW). 8:30 p.m. $10.

BOOKS: Historian Manning Marable, whose biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention was recently published, was schedueld to appear at Politics and Prose (5015 Connecticut Ave NW) tonight, but passed away on April 1st. In his memory, the bookstore will be hosting a tribute event for Marable tonight, bringing in friends, colleagues, and authors to celebrate his life and work. 7 p.m. Free.

FOOD & DRINK: A collection of area chefs compete tonight in the Main Dish challenge at The Washington Post Conference Center (1150 15th Street NW) tonight, an event hosted by and supporting Kidsave, a nonprofit that helps children in foster care find permanent homes. 7-10 p.m. $95 per person, or $180 per couple.
