The Washington Business Journal reports on big-time art collector and educator Peggy Cooper Cafritz, whose massive 15,000 sq. ft. home was wrecked by fire in 2009. The inside was gutted and the fire took with it most of her impressive two-decade long art collection, but left the structure standing. WBJ says Cafritz won’t return to the 3030 Chain Bridge Road NW home, quoting her explaining, “Emotionally, I don’t know if I could go back there. It would be like trying to recreate a life that has basically been destroyed. I don’t know if I can or should spend the kind of time it would take to recreate that life.” She blames the fire on low water pressure that kept firefighters from finding and adequate stream of water for nearly two hours. So now, the home can be yours for a cool $5 million, along with a nearly $80,000 tax lein, which Cafritz is disputing.
