Photo by dullshick.Good morning, D.C. After some beautiful weather this week, looks like we’re back to clouds and showers this weekend. Perhaps it’s time for a spring cleaning project, an afternoon catching up on your favorite TV show, or for the less ambitious: a nice nap.
>> After last week’s news that the legislators have concerns about the safety of the Bay Bridge, this week’s news that tolls on the bridge will likely increase isn’t exactly what you want to hear. Tolls on the bride have not increased since 1975, but a new proposal has them going up from $2.50 to $5 this year and then to $8 in 2013. Commuter rates would increase to $1.50 this year and $2.80 in 2013.
>> Increased tolls, on top of increased water and sewage rates for Maryland residents: the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is hiking their rates for the second consecutive year. Starting July 1, water and sewer rates will go up 8.5 percent for WSSC customers. WSSC says the money will help pay for an increase in pipe replacement work.
>> Yesterday afternoon, a 5-year-old child got his foot stuck on the escalator of 13th and U exit of the U Street metro stop. Firefighters were able to free the child’s foot within 5 minutes. The child did not have any serious injuries.
>> This week’s Metro track work affects every line except for the Green. Blue Line trains are sharing tracks between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road stations. Blue and Yellow Line trains are sharing tracks between the Braddock Road and Pentagon City stations. On the Red line, trains are sharing tracks between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Twinbrook Metrorail stations and between the New York Ave and Rhode Island Ave stations. Finally, on the Orange line trains are sharing track between the Ballston and West Falls Church stations.
