As we’ve noted a couple of times this week, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, a.k.a. OFWGKTA, a.k.a. Odd Future are playing at the Rock and Roll Hotel this evening. Cue the excitement!
The L.A.-based collective, which specializes in a punkish brand of outlandish lyricism, has skyrocketed to fame rather quickly — for example, after being moved to a larger stage during this year’s SXSW festival, some “5,000 people stampeded over fences, rocks and port-a-pottys to see the ruckus unfold” while group MC Tyler the Creator “yelled himself hoarse as the members jumped off of speaker towers and tossed water at the crowd.” Earlier this week, the band was again in the news for similar excitement, as they allegedly “nearly incited” a riot at a record store in Boston. Then, the band’s May 16 show at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre — which holds about 1,000 people — was cut short after the crowd chucked several glass bottles on the stage.
Such stories, obviously, are not lost on the management at the Hotel, which posted a somewhat out-of-character, all caps warning on its Twitter page this morning (see above) letting people know that attendees should bring themselves — and little else — to tonight’s show. But even if everyone is on their best behavior, we’d recommend not filling up on a big dinner on H Street tonight: one imagines that personal space will be at a real premium inside the venue tonight.
