MOVIE: Depending on the weather, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the 1939 movie about an idealistic and naive new Congressman played by Jimmy Stewart, is the first D.C.-themed movie in this year’s outdoor U Street Movie Series at Harrison Field (V Street NW between 13th and 14th Streets). See the rest of the films in this series, as well as the other free outdoor film festivals going on this summer (and Tuesday-Friday this week), in our 2011 D.C. Outdoor Film Festival Roundup. Gates open at 7 p.m., arrive early for free popcorn. Free.

FOOD & DRINK: Take a break from the pig roasts and BBQs to check out Eatonville’s (2121 14th Street NW ) “Eating from the Garden” four-course completely vegetarian Food & Folklore dinner tonight. Oren Molovinsky, co-founder of Farm to Table DC, will host the event. 6:30 p.m. $45.

TALK: A half-dozen local authors and historians participate in a panel discussion about the invasion of Alexandria during the Civil War at Hotel Monaco (480 King Street, Alexandria). 6-9 p.m.

MUSIC: Jason Webley, an “accordion troubadour” who has taken his act from street corners to the stage, plays the Red Palace (1212 H Street NE) tonight. Mab Just Mab also performs. 9 p.m. $10.
