- Mayor Vince Gray says that he won’t veto a budget without an increase in income taxes on residents making more than $200,000 — of course, since Council Chair Kwame Brown hasn’t released his counter-proposal, we can’t really be totally sure what Gray is saying that he won’t be vetoing.
- Justin Navarro, who killed 31-year-old Kevin Massey by stabbing him “18 to 20” times with a butcher knife in 2009, was sentenced to 40 years in prison today. Massey was gay and prosecutors had alleged that Navarro killed Massey to “quell rumors about his sexuality,” but a jury did not find beyond a reasonable doubt that the action was a hate crime.
