Glasvegas will be at the Black Cat tonight.TUESDAY
When we saw Glasvegas at the beginning of their international touring career in 2008, we sorely lamented our lack of earplugs. Several TV appearances and three years later, feel free to learn from our mistake as the noisy Scottish quartet comes with The Dig to Black Cat. $18, 8 p.m.
U Street Music Hall: Cyhi da Prynce & Stalley. $15 with college ID / $20 others, 9:45 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Sleek crooner and Grammy winner Raphael Saadiq will take you back to what you loved about Motown, but still has enough modern genre-crossing to remind you that you’re watching a show at the 9:30 Club in 2011. Quadron and Yuna open. $35, 7 p.m.
DAR Constitution Hall: Paul Simon. Sold out. 8 p.m.
Paul Simon is in town…but has sold out both his DAR and 9:30 Club shows.THURSDAY
One of the most interesting things about Friendly Fires‘ dance-oriented indie pop was that the licks and beats were created on guitars and drums, rather than drum machines and synths. However, they have appear to have also added some more electronic elements into their ensemble and they’ll be showcasing both newer and older fare at the 9:30 Club. Wise Blood opens. $17.50, 7 p.m.
Red Palace: The Deathset, Win Win. $12, 8:30 p.m.
Kennedy Center Millennium Stage: The Sweater Set. Free, 6 p.m.
FRIDAY
Unsurprisingly iconic songwriter Paul Simon has sold out both his Wednesday show at DAR Constitution Hall and Friday’s 9:30 Club show. Seriously, everyone owns Graceland, so of course it was going to sell out. The internet appears to have some options. Sold out. 7 p.m.
As such, don’t sleep on the Scream show at Black Cat, because it will certainly sell out soon. No, seriously, we recommend that you jump on tickets for this show from the local hardcore heroes — especially considering that they’ve been advertising some “special guests” for this show…and I don’t think that they just mean local garage rockers The Shirks. $15, 9:00 p.m.
SATURDAY
The Rock and Roll Hotel has a loaded bill of powerhouse local bands. Medications will be making their first appearance since September, but the J. Robbins’ led Office of Future Plans and psychedelic instrumentalists Buildings are capable headliners in their own right. Show up early and stay late. $10 in advance / $12 day of show, 9 p.m.
Black Cat: Cloud Cult, The Wilderness of Manitoba. $16, 9 p.m.
SUNDAY
The Donkeys almost sounds like the name of a band that people who watch Jackass in their free time would form as sort of a joke. And while they are certainly California duders who surf and hang out like they’re in a coming-of-age movie, the music is decidedly more laid back and relaxing. Presto Bando opens at DC9. $8, 8:30 p.m.
