The videotaped altercation between Dwight Harris and two transit police officers who appeared to violently restrain him outside the U Street Metro station last week has led to dropped charges and discipline for the officers involved.
According to WMATA, the two Metro Transit Police Department officers in the video have been placed on desk duty until an investigation into the arrest can be completed. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has also dropped a charge of assaulting a police officer which had been levied against Harris. The charge of drinking in public still stands.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has also announced that they are planning on reviewing the entire matter; WMATA, who initially said that Harris resisted arrest and “fell from his wheelchair,” is also conducting an internal investigation. Harris told media earlier this week that he was in the process of procuring legal representation.
