Photo by lovedc. While some of this year’s outdoor film festivals are already in full swing (we’re looking at you, Rosslyn), others are still releasing their lineups. There’s still no word on Screen on the Green, but Bethesda has now announced their one-week outdoor movie schedule, which will take place in July. We list it below, and will add it to our original roundup.
Also, be sure to check out the Hirshhorn’s June Summer Camp: SAUCERIFEROUS! movie series. (It’s schedule can also be found below.) It’s not outdoors, but it is a cool collection of alien movies from the 1950s, which sounds like a fine way to beat the heat.
Bethesda Outdoor Movies: Stars on the Avenue
Where: Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle, corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues
When: 9:00 p.m. on 5 consecutive nights, July 26-July 30
A themeless entry, you can catch five nights of popular mainstream movies at the end of July during Bethesda’s free Stars on the Avenue series.
July 26 – The Breakfast Club
July 27 – Bye Bye Birdie
July 28 – The Kings Speech
July 29 – Rocky
July 30 – The Social Network
Summer Camp: SAUCERIFEROUS! at Hirshhorn
Where: Ring Auditorium, Hirshhorn Museum (1100 Jefferson Drive SW)
When: 7-9 p.m. three nights in June
Theme: 1950s martian movies
When the summer rain comes, skip the outdoor film fests and check out this indoor one. These classic alien movies will be presented with some context about the Cold War, mixing entertainment with a little bit of learning.
June 16 – The Day the Earth Stood Still
June 23 – The War of the Worlds
June 30 – Earth vs. the Flying Saucers
