During the meeting, 124 people got the chance to place three stickers on maps of the District where they’d like to see new Capital Bikeshare stations around the city. Some people decided to go selfish (placing their stars in three locations around their residence), while others banded together (a large group of Gallaudet students placed many stars on the school’s campus). But regardless of the approach, one thing is clear: people really, really want more Bikeshare docks in Petworth.
The chart below shows the final results of the meeting, along with votes for new stations collected by email for those who couldn’t attend. As you can see, a proposed location at the intersection of Upshur Street and Georgia Avenue NW received 94 votes. The next most requested station, at Connecticut and Nebraska Avenues NW, earned 58 votes. You can see the final results of the voting below. It makes sense — currently, the only Bikeshare station in the neighborhood is located outside the Petworth Metro station, and the neighborhood could certainly support another few shared bikes. (There are a couple of stations along 14th Street to the west of the neighborhood, but none to the northeast around Sherman Circle.)
The good news? DDOT says that they’ll take into consideration the public feedback as they finalize the next round of Bikeshare locations. (They’re also accepting email feedback on the proposed locations until June 17.) You can check out more information on the expansion at the Bikeshare website.
