Remember when we wondered how Walmart would react to Mayor Vince Gray’s “build at Skyland or don’t build at all” ultimatum? Today, the Big Blue Box announced that it’s planning on opening up a location near National Harbor in Prince George’s County, reports Jonathan O’Connell. Now, we’d never be so naive to assume that the National Harbor deal hasn’t been in the works for quite some time. But it does serve as a warning shot of sorts to the District’s political leadership: if Walmart isn’t wanted in D.C., they’re more than happy to simply take the money they would have paid in taxes to the District and give it to Maryland and Virginia instead.
