Last month, officials from D.C. Water and the city’s fire department kindly asked residents to not bust open fire hydrants during heat waves. It sounds like people are listening — WTOP reports that said officials have “a high level of confidence” in the water pressure inside fire hydrants around the city.

Last August, the city scored highly on an independent audit performed on the city’s more than 9,000 hydrants, and has been working in the period since then to standardize them. D.C. Water will soon take over responsibility for testing the hyrdrants from the fire department. The city has historically had a tough time keeping pressure up inside the hydrants, so it’s good to hear that things are getting better.
