MOVIES: The annual Silverdocs documentary film festival at AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road Silver Spring, MD) kicks off tonight and runs through June 26th. Check out the full line-up online, and stay tuned to DCist for lots of coverage.

SPELLING: Blacktop Theatre Company and the Keegan Theatre are hosting a Spelling Bee for adults tonight at the Church Street Theatre (1742 Church Street NW). Words will be contemporary, D.C.-oriented, and “a little bit spicy.” 10 spelling participants from the theatre community are already lined up, but there are a few slots open for audience members as well. 8 p.m. Pay what you can.

MUSIC: It’s a full evening at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW), where Defiance, Ohio, Nana Grizol, Your Heart Breaks and Toby Foster will be performing tonight. 8 p.m. $10.

FOOD & DRINK: Beginning today and continuing through June 24th, Capital Bikeshare members can nab a free cupcake at the Sprinkles in Georgetown (3015 M Street NW) by flashing their key fob.

TUESDAY: Buddha-Bar (455 Massachusetts Avenue NW) is throwing a Summer Lovin’ Patio Party this Tuesday with cocktails and happy hour specials, paired with complimentary spring rolls and edamame. To attend, make reservations by emailing events@buddhabardc.com.

WEDNESDAY: Come one, come all to see D.C.’s own sideshow acts, burlesque performers and fabulous freaks (and no, we’re not talking about Congress) at the DC Variety Showcase at Red Palace (1212 H Street NE). Doors open at 9 p.m., show starts at 9:30. $10.

THURSDAY: OK Go and Pomplamoose will put on a free show at the Kennedy Center to celebrate the Millennium Stage’s (2700 F Street NW) 14th anniversary. While free tickets have already been distributed, there’s still hope! A standby line will form at the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations at 10 a.m. for a chance to attend. The show is at 6 p.m. Free.
