Good morning, Washington. It was two years ago today when two Metro trains collided outside the Fort Totten station, killing nine people and injuring dozens more. It remains the deadliest accident in WMATA history. The transit agency is marking the anniversary with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Fort Totten station this morning, while family and friends of those who were killed in the crash, many still searching for closure, have created a makeshift memorial on the bridge overlooking the crash site. A candlelight vigil will also be held on the bridge tonight.

Fire at Tune Inn: D.C. Fire and EMS crews responded to a kitchen fire inside the Tune Inn at 331 1/2 Pennsylvania Avenue SE this morning. (Originally, the fire was believed to have been at the neighboring Hawk ‘n’ Dove.) It appears as if the fire has been extinguished, thanks to a heavy response, but preliminary reports from witnesses on the scene are not encouraging.

Council Chair’s Brother Bankrupt: Che Brown, one of the key figures of a probe into the campaign finances of his brother, D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown, filed bankruptcy earlier this year, reports Patrick Madden. This despite findings releaed by the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance which show that Brown’s 2008 Council campaign had funneled around $250,000 to a firm led by the Chair’s brother — most of which he was unable to document when audited by OCF.

This Day in DCist: Last year, the Post “profiled” Ward 8 ANC and perpetual Council challenger Sandra Seegars (who sounds like she’s gearing up for another run at Marion Barry, by the way), while a rehabbed Wang was feeling much better.
