Photo by ellievanhoutte. We reported yesterday that Mayor Vince Gray was going to be missing tomorrow’s rally for D.C. voting rights at the White House, leading some in the movement to grumble. Well, Gray seems to have changed his mind. Late last night, we got word that Gray will be making a thirty-minute appearance at the rally, which will be held at Lafayette Square Park, between 11:15 and 11:45 a.m. before he heads over to serve as the Grand Marshall of this weekend’s Caribbean Carnival Parade.
Councilmember Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4), who was arrested alongside Gray in April, called the scheduling conflict between the rally and the parade “unfortunate,” noting that the parade has started at the same time for 17 years. “With very little effort this confusion could have been avoided,” she said.
“Hopefully enough people will be at both,” she added.
