Photo by Vileinist.Good morning, Washington. Well, I guess we can all stop making “Fully Loaded” jokes. Turns out that Kwame Brown has embraced the moniker, naming his office’s walking team “Fully Unloaded”. (Ah, I see what you did there, Mr. Chair.) Now that Brown’s actually having a laugh about it, the whole “fully loaded” thing has kind of jumped the shark, right? Oh, if only there were any other local government jokes to fall back on!
Don’t Rush Us, Mon: So was there any part of last weekend’s Caribbean Carnival that wasn’t an abject failure? Violence near the parade route, questions about policing, and now, the organizers of the festival are complaining that cops rushed them. The carnival’s director Loughton Sargeant tells WAMU that in addition to a shortened route, organizers had to cancel the traditional costume judging portion of the afternoon. “This is a festival, not a riot, not a war, not a protest,” said Sargeant.
Poker Problems: The District is getting set to roll out an intranet gaming system later this summer — but first, there has to be a public hearing! And much like his colleague Michael A. Brown, Councilmember Jack Evans might be hearing about a little more than the proposed age limit (19) or the types of games that will be on offer during that session: Mike DeBonis reports that Evans’ side job as an attorney at Patton Boggs might bring up a conflict of interest. Patton Boggs represents Penn National Gaming Corp., which owns the three brick-and-mortar casinos closest to the District, and conceivably could have good business reasons to prevent the city from installing its own gambling mechanism. When asked about the potential conflict, Evans claimed ignorance.
Trapped In The (Walk-In) Closet: Is R. Kelly looking for a short-term sublet on Capitol Hill? Well, no, he’s not. I guess he believes he can just fly through town, instead of sticking around for a bit.

This Day in DCist: Last year, we got a new editor-in-chief up in this joint (replacing my now-Atlantic-bound predecessor), and this strapping young lad got right to work on posts about summer school and Courtney Love.
