On hand for the event in the Rhythm and Blues area’s Motor City Stage on the Mall will be Tony Cornelius, dancer Tyrone Proctor and DJ/drummer/Soul Train aficionado, Questlove. Free. 6 p.m.

>> Eric Roberson is no stranger to D.C., having gone to Howard and seemingly performing in the area every few months or so. Friday’s venue is the Birchmere where he’ll be joined by Abby Dobson. $29.50. 7:30 p.m.
>> The “Moneytown” party is celebrating its third year of existence. To celebrate, DJ Nitekrawler will host DJ Dredd at Little Miss Whiskey’s. And if you get there early, you could pick up a few soul 45 RPM records (while supplies last). Free. 10 p.m.
>> Kicking off the holiday weekend is a “Red Fridays” set at U Street Music Hall featuring two local DJs with the same last name and a penchant for dance music.
