Photo by K Rooney.FESTIVAL: This year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival celebrates the culture of Colombia, the history of the Peace Corps and the soul of Rhythm and Blues music. The festival kicked off with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. — but there are events going on throughout the day, and there’s a Soul Train Dance Party tonight from 6-8 p.m. Events are also going on this weekend (July 1-4), and the weekend after (July 7-11). Free.
MOVIE: See five gold-medal winning short films from the 2011 Student Academy Awards, which features filmmakers still in college, at the National Archives’ McGowan Theater (Constitution Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets NW). 7 p.m. Free.
