Tomorrow, we celebrate our independence. Today, we learn that many of us are historically inept. According to a new poll, about one in four Americans doesn’t know from which country the United States declared its independence.

The survey of 1,003 adults taken last month found that 76% correctly cite Great Britain, 19% are unsure, and 5% mention another country.

The poll also found that only 58% know that the United States declared its independence in 1776.
