MOVIE: Summer Screenings: Independent Film Series, co-sponsored by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, kicks off at the Renaissance Washington DC Dupont Circle Hotel (1143 New Hampshire Avenue NW) tonight with a screening of My Trip Down The Pink Carpet. HIP-HOP: The D.C. Hip-Hop Theater Festival brings musical artists Maimouna Youssef, Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew and MC Tabi Bonney to the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage (2700 F Street NW) tonight. The show starts at 6 p.m., but get there at 5 p.m. for a lesson from dancer Rujeko Dumbutshena. Free.

FITNESS: Ever watch your dog stretching and think “he does downward-facing dog way better than me”? Show off your pet’s yoga skills at tonight’s “Dogi and Me Yoga” session at Jackson 20/Hotel Monaco’s (480 King Street, Alexandria). The event will be led by members of Pure Prana Yoga Studio. 6 p.m. Free.

DANCE: The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet performs work by contemporary ballet choreographer Jorma Elo tonight at Wolf Trap (Filene Center, 1645 Trap Road, Vienna). 8:30 p.m. $4 lawn, $40 in-house.

MUSIC: Eleanor Friedberger takes a break from The Fiery Furnaces to perform music from her solo album tonight at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW). 8:30 p.m. $10.

FOOD & DRINK: The Black Squirrel (2427 18th Street NW) has been invaded! By North Carolina beers. The takeover started yesterday and will continue ’til the brews are gone. Come out to try beers from French Broad Brewing Co., Triangle Brewing Co., Mother Earth Brewing Co., Foothills Brewing and Carolina Brewery. Pair them up with homemade pulled pork sandwiches with Carolina BBQ sauce, slaw and hand-cut fries.
