Who are you? Who should you be friends with? Who is your soulmate? These are some of the questions that Pepys, Inc. aims to answer as it launches e-Geaux, “an app that optimizes your life” based on your Facebook data.

Tech-addicts are quite familiar with the format: a representative of some tech company, in this case black-shirted Pepys, Inc. CEO Joseph Price, provides a demonstration of the features of some new wonderful product/application/website that will make you better, faster, stronger, and, of course, sexier.

Upon entrance, audience members are asked to opt in and share their Facebook information: status updates, images, friends, relationship status. Using the compiled data, Price, assisted by Chief Marketing Officer Cat Deadman and Chief Information Officer Jason Pittman, proceed to illustrate just how useful your Facebook data can be in making the right life decisions, or just how embarrassing oversharing can be, given the right context.

If you’re one of those people who waits with bated breath for the next iPhone, and refreshes your browser to find out what new phenomenal HAL-like feature will be introduced next, you’ll appreciate the little winks and nods to Steve Jobs’ product introductions. But even if you’re not, you’ll still derive plenty of laughs as you realize that maybe you should delete that profile picture.

e-Geaux embodies the spirit of Fringe by using new tools to take improv and audience participation to a new level. And it will be interesting to see how a concept like this might evolve in the future. For those nervous about sharing their Facebook information, know that your data is deleted after the show. And don’t worry, they won’t embarrass you too much.

Full disclosure: I am contractually bound to write a positive review. At least, that’s what we were told in the End User License Agreement, anyway.

e-Geaux has three remaining performances: July 19, 23 and 24. Tickets are available online.
