Photo by elliotmitchell.WMATA’s efforts to try and improve communication with riders took another step forward today, as the transit agency released a schedule of all the major weekend track work planned through next June. The schedule, which is available here, should prove helpful for those who prefer a little heads up on when they’ll have to hop on to a bus to circumvent track work.
The schedule features work that’s part of an aggressive, accelerated year-long plan to get the Metrorail system up to speed with National Transportation Safety Board recommendations, the bulk of which involves closing down stations over weekends and replacing rail service with bus service while work is being done.
“We want our customers, community groups and other stakeholders to have as much advance notice as possible of the major projects we plan to undertake in the next year,” Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Richard Sarles said in a statement announcing the schedule. “It is our hope that the communities we serve will find this a useful tool when planning special events.”
WMATA is reminding riders that it’s possible changes could come up in the schedule depending on weather or other mitigating circumstances. Overall, though, a nice move by the folks over at Judiciary Square to at least try and keep people informed.
