The Post has it on good authority that Mayor Vince Gray is expected to name Ron Linton, a political consultant with 45 years of experience working with the District and federal governments, as the new permanent chairman of the D.C. Taxicab Commission.
Linton — who for 27 years ran his own consulting firm, LMRC, Ltd., worked on John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign and once chaired the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority — would assume control of an commission which has been in the news of late for less-than-positive reasons. Interim commissioner Dena Reed recently came under heavy fire after calling for the removal of journalists from a public hearing, while a recent Post investigation into improper donations to Gray’s 2010 mayoral campaign involved several taxicab fundraisers. Gray fired former taxicab commissioner Leon Swain in April.
Maybe Linton can bring much-needed order to the commission — according to his lengthy bio, the new commissioner’s been a reserve police officer in District for 25 years, achieving the level of Assistant Chief.
