>> Lawyers for Virginia inmate Jerry Terrell Jackson, 30, facing execution August 18 for the 2001 murder of 88-year-old Ruth Philips of Williamsburg, filed an appeal Friday with the U.S. Supreme Court. His lawyers claim the jury was not given a complete picture of the abuse Jackson suffered as a child and included two members who didn’t take Jackson’s age and background into account as mitigating factors.

>> Thomas Washington, 53, was found guilty Thursday of runn a crack cocaine and marijuana business from a house in Northeast, D.C. He faces at least 15 years in prison.

>> Twenty-nine year old Debro Lamonte Wilkerson of Manassas died after he was tasered by Prince William county police trying to arrest him Saturday. Police were called in to help the fire department treat a man police said was combative. Wilkerson was taken to an area hospital, where he died. Police are conducting a criminal and internal investigation.

>> A 22-year-old woman was raped in Montgomery County, Md., at Wagonwheel Court early Friday morning. The woman was getting out of her car when a man approached her and forced her to a playground where he raped her. The attacker hid his face and hair with a piece of clothing.
