It’s our understanding that Mayor Vince Gray will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first sidewalk cafe in Washington in front of The Chesapeake Room on Barracks Row this morning. Look, whatever you do, Mr. Mayor, just watch out for those “ladies of easy virtue” who will likely be preparing to “ply their trade up and down the street” as you deliver your speech. Then again, since Gray was a freshman at George Washington University when the first D.C. sidewalk cafe opened its doors at 13th and E Streets NW in 1961, he probably knows how to handle himself in such situations.
