>> “Soul Overdose” is making a return. The showcase of indie artists will feature N’Digo Rose and Terrence Cunningham at the Blackbyrd Warehouse (2005 14th Street NW). $5. 8 p.m.
>> The trio consisting of Black Milk, Guilty Simpson and Sean Price form hip-hop supergroup Random Axe. Last month, they dropped a self-titled album to much underground acclaim. On hand at Heaven & Hell will be Simpson and Price, as well as Smif-N-Wessun, for a live performance of material from their collective catalogs. $13 in advance. 9 p.m.
Friday:
>> Kendrick Lamar comes from Compton, California, a place very familiar with fostering rap talent. Critics are anointing him as the next to be added to the city’s hip-hop Mt. Rushmore, and folks like Dr. Dre seem to be concurring by offering Lamar a spot on Dre’s long-awaited Detox album. He’ll be at the 9:30 Club to demonstrate what all the hype’s about. $25. 8 p.m.
Saturday:
>> Culture Shock DC is hosting its 8th Annual East Coast Dance Concert and Workshops at the Carter Barron Amphitheater. For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page. Free. 6 p.m.
>> El DeBarge had a slew of R&B hits in the 1980s with his siblings in the group DeBarge as well as on his own, such as “Who’s Johnny“. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native will be taking to the Lincoln Theatre‘s stage for a special performance. $55-$65. 8 p.m.
