FOOD & DRINK: Truckeroo set up its third monthly Food Truck Extravaganza across from the Navy Yard Metro station (Half and M Street SE) this morning, and it continues late into the evening. Bringing cash is recommended. 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Free.

TALK: DCist’s own music writer Valerie Paschall performs standup at the You, Me, Them Everybody live talk show at Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon Street NW) tonight. Host Brandon Wetherbee will also sit down with Cale Charney of Brightest Young Things, and The Public Good will perform. 8 p.m. Free.

MUSIC: My Morning Jacket and Neko Case perform tonight at Merriweather Post Pavilion (10475 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. $35 lawn, $45 pavilion.

ART: Gun Show opens at Washington Project for the Arts (2023 Massachusetts Avenue NW) with a presentation by artist John James Anderson and a reception. 6-8 p.m.

FAIRS: Both the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair (500 Perry Parkway Gaithersburg) and the Prince William County Fair (10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas) kick off today and continue through August 20th. The Montgomery County Fair is free for kids 11 and younger, $10 everyone else. The Prince William County Fair is free for kids under 5, $4 for 5-13 year olds, and $8 for everyone else.

>> The Arlington County Fair (3501 2nd Street South, Arlington) opened earlier this week and continues through this Sunday. Come out for piglet races, the Star Family Circus, outdoor movies and more. 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. tonight and Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Free admission.

MOVIE: See Lindsey Lohan, before she was a blonde, and Tina Fey, before she was on 30 Rock, in Mean Girls, tonight’s movie from the Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival (Gateway Park at the base of Key Bridge, 1300 Lee Highway, Arlington). Dusk. Free.

SATURDAY

MUSIC: Cheer on budding rockstars during the Girls Rock! DC camper showcase at 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW). It’s one of our favorite concerts of the year; awesome, fun and inspirational. 10:30 a.m. $10.

>> On Saturday evening, head back to 9:30 for the Junior League Band, Kingsley Flood and Typefighter. 8 p.m. $15.

>> Forget UFC, come out for a more sensitive competition: the Crybaby Championship of the World! DJs Steve EP, Missguided, Killa K, and Krasty McNasty pit The Cure vs. The Smiths at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) Cryfest dance party. 9 p.m. $10.

CRAFTS: The Ballston Arts and Crafts Market (North Stuart and North 9th Streets in Arlington, across from the Ballston Metro station) brings in a variety of artists and their handmade creations. Come out for pet portraits, geeky jewlery, quilted linens and lots more. There will also be free yoga from noon to 2 p.m. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FESTIVAL: Make the drive out to Front Royal (1847 N. Royal Avenue Front Royal, VA) for the Shenandoah Riverfest, an afternoon of free canoeing, live bluegrass music, a silent auction, food and outdoor fun from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Then stay for the Shenandoah River Rodeo from 4-8 p.m., an evening of BBQ and beer, more live music and camping (if you want). $40 for the first ticket, $30 for additional tickets.

DANCE: Swing your partner round and round, dosey doe, and learn other moves at the Great American Square Dance Revival Saturday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church (1525 Newton Street NW). The night comes complete with the Capitol Possum Hunters on fiddle, banjo and guitar and Gabe Popkin calling the steps. All are welcome and no partners needed. 8:30-11:30 p.m. $5.

>> Culture Shock Dance Troupe performs their 8th annual East Coast Dance Concert at Carter Barron Amphitheater (16th Street and Colorado Avenue NW) on Saturday. Pre-show (in front of box office) at 6 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Free. Then hit the after party from 10 p.m.-3 a.m. ($10 cover) at Spot Lounge (1214 18th Street NW).

SUNDAY

FOOD & DRINK: D.C. Beer Week begins Sunday with a ton of great events. Our top pick is the Craft Beer Cruise (6-9 p.m., tickets $85), featuring over 20 craft beers, dinner, dancing and being on a boat. If you’re more of a landlubber, check out the Beer and Cheese Pairing at Meridian Pint (7 p.m., $25, includes tax and tip).

>> Bourbon Steak (2800 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) is roasting a 300-pound pig for its Second Annual “Pig Out” Patio Party. There will also be bratwursts, sausages, BBQ ribs, a slew of sides (cornbread, coleslaw and baked beans) and dessert (homemade ice cream and pies). Beers for the event will be from DC Brau. 12-3 p.m. $35 for food or $50 for food and drink.

COMEDY: Enjoy a half-dozen comedians while you nosh on a “heaping helping of good food” during the Comedy Barbeque at The Gibson (2009 14th Street NW). Call (202) 232-2156 to grab a ticket. 8 p.m. $22 includes food and the show.

TOUR: Put on your walking shoes and meet up at the Arlington Career Center/Columbia Pike Library (816 South Walter Reed Drive, Arlington) for Pike Hike II, a tour of Arlington’s international eateries, local shops, parks, historic churches and the Columbia Pike Farmers’ Market. The hike ends at the Farmers’ Market where a shuttle waits to take walkers to the Arlington County Fair at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center. 9:30-11 a.m. Free.

DANCE: Take a hip-hop dance class from choreographers Joshua Gilmore (D.C./L.A.), Dennis Caindec (N.Y.), Sherman Shoate (SD) & Simon Walti (Switzerland) at the DC Dance Collective (4908 Wisconsin Avenue NW) Sunday. Registration starts at 12 p.m., followed by classes from 1-6 p.m. $15.

POETRY: On the second Sunday of every month, Iota (2832 Wilson Boulevard VA) hosts a poetry series. 6-8 p.m. Free.

MUSIC: Scattered Trees and The Alternate Routes co-headline at the Red Palace (1210 H Street NE). Paul Dempsey opens. 8 p.m. $10.
