…Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) was out there winning his bid for re-election.
Despite the fact that we’re in the midst of the summer doldrums and Evans hasn’t lost a re-election bid since 1992, the Ward 2 councilmember isn’t sitting idly by and enjoying the legislature’s recess — this week he launched his 2012 re-election website.
The move follows something of a trend for Evans — being way ahead of the competition. Evans filed for re-election in April, has already raised $143,000 and found himself a 14th Street NW campaign office.
To date, no one has filed paperwork to unseat the Ward 2 incumbent, while Councilmember Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) has four challengers and Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) two. Councilmembers Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) and Vincent Orange (D-At Large) are similarly unchallenged, though there have been plenty of rumors floating around about potential competitors to Barry.
So if anyone is looking to send Evans into retirement, know that you’re months late and thousands of dollars behind already.
