Tasti D-Lite Cake or whale cake?

Tasti D-Lite, the New York-based “low fat frozen dessert” chain, has plans to open two outposts in D.C. The first, opening in September, will be in Dupont Circle at 2029 P Street NW. This will be followed by another location in Columbia Heights at 3100 14th Street NW in November.

The “frozen dessert” is dairy based; a serving is 100 calories or less and contains no artificial sweeteners. It’s unclear exactly what Tasti D-Lite is, but it’s not frozen yogurt. And unlike most frozen yogurt joints in the area, Tasti will offer a rotating menu of a large number of flavors — over 100.

This is not their first venture in the area — they have a location in Anne Arundel County’s Severna Park, and once had a location in College Park that has long since closed.
