Photo by Matt DunnAccording to the Washington Post’s Nikita Stewart, under fire deputy chief of staff Andi Pringle will resign from the Gray administration. Pringle, who was only hired to the job on August 30, informed Gray of her decision to resign today.
Pringle had been under attack recently for voting in a District primary while residing in Maryland and allegedly performing consulting services without the proper licensing. Yesterday, deputy mayor Paul Quander admitted that the Gray administration did not thoroughly vet Pringle, despite a promise from the administration to perform background checks on all new mayoral appointees. During a press conference today, Gray told media that he intended to investigate further the allegations lodged against Pringle, who did not attend the news conference.
A official statement regarding Pringle’s resignation from the Mayor’s office is expected at some point this evening.
UPDATE: Here’s Gray’s statement regarding Pringle’s resignation:
“This afternoon I accepted the resignation of my Deputy Chief of Staff, Andi Pringle. I appreciate her taking responsibility for her actions. It’s important that we not allow any distractions from my administration’s focus on its four major priorities: economic development and job creation, education reform, public safety, and responsible fiscal management. And we must do everything we can to restore public trust in our government.”
