The Rosslyn Metro station is one of the deepest in the system, with two platforms that sit at 97 and 117 vertical feet below street level. Getting to those platforms takes a little while — normally, a ride from the top of the station’s main escalators takes about two and a half minutes. This morning, it took a little bit longer.
According to WMATA spokesperson Dan Stessel, the station’s escalators experienced a unique smattering of issues — including trouble with handrails, steps and water — which knocked out the escalators for slightly longer than an hour between 8:02 and 9:03 a.m.
On the bright side, seeing as how humans burn approximately .11 calories per stair climbed, rush hour commuters leaving Rosslyn likely burned around 20 calories this morning.
