UPDATE: (9:30 a.m.) It appears as if the police presence at the bridge has started to dissipate, and traffic is again being allowed to pass over the bridge.

We’re receiving reports that the Duke Ellington Bridge has been blocked off to traffic by a large number of police cars and tape this morning. According to witnesses on the scene, no cars, buses or pedestrians are able to cross the span. Police have confirmed that the bridge has been closed down due to a suspicious package. Given the news regarding a potential threat to the area, police will obviously be taking every precaution. Police bomb squads are heading to toward the scene.

Those looking to get across the bridge should use Columbia Road as a detour.
