Nothing says “way to go guys” for saving my home and all my worldly possessions like a case of beer. But according to D.C. Fire Department Chief Kenneth Ellerbe, a fire station is no place for sudsy goodness. WTOP reports that the case of beer found in the Engine 9 station’s refrigerator, which led to the station’s shutdown for two hours, was a gift from local resident Clem Cypra. An AC fire was extinguished in Cypra’s home last Wednesday, the good deed reciprocated with a case of beer. “I did what any 36-year-old guy would do — I took them a case of beer,” said Cypra.

Nevertheless, Ellerbe says command staff should have use better judgement by not accepting the gift at all. Despite all 15 suspended staff members passing an alcohol test, Ellerbe asserts, “we can’t have this kind of behavior. The command staff will be appropriately reprimanded.” So just remember, gifts to local officials is not recommended.
