It remains unclear when the Washington Monument will reopen after several cracks were discovered in its stones after the August earthquake that shook the region. Carol Johnson, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, said assessment of the damage is not complete, and WTOP reported that plans are being made to winterize the monument. Johnson said engineers will participate in a news conference Monday afternoon to discuss the assessment and repair plans.
