For the first time in history, the person officially responsible for overseeing all aspects of the operations and activities inside the White House’s executive residence will be a woman. Angella Reid, currently the general manager at The Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City, was named Chief Usher by the White House today.

Reid will be the ninth Chief Usher, who manages activities and resources at the Executive Residence, maintain close liaisons with Presidential historical and preservation societies and oversees the annual inventory of White House property. Before working at the Ritz, Reid held hospitality jobs in Connecticut, New York and studied in Germany. She takes over for Rear Admiral Stephen W. Rochon (Ret.), the first African American Chief Usher who left the job earlier this year.

Reid will start the job in November.
