This morning, Mayor Vince Gray announced that clothing retailer Ross would soon be opening its first store in the District, only blocks away from the H Street NE Corridor.
At his biweekly press conference, Gray also said that the new store, which will be located in the Hechinger Mall on Benning Road NE, agreed to hire more than 60 residents through an initiative by which employers partner with the city to identify locals that could qualify for job openings. (Gray hopes to use the initiative to hire 10,000 D.C. residents within one year.)
The last time there were rumors of a Ross opening, they provided plenty of fodder for one Columbia Heights listserv — as far as we can tell, though, no one living around the Hechinger Mall has resorted to calling Ross a “ghetto ass store” yet, at least not publicly.
