Last week, the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street NE was officially named to the National Register of Historic Places by the Department of the Interior.

The government’s weekly list of new additions to the Register is about a month or so behind, but we assure you, the Atlas is definitely now on the list. (There’s a plaque and everything!) The arts center joins an impressive group of 588 other D.C. landmarks which have been conferred with the same status.

In order to make the list, a place has to meet several criteria. Inclusion on the Register grants places several benefits, such as eligibility for federal preservation grants, tax credits, and general bragging rights.
