Rex Grossman sure had a terrible game against the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday, didn’t he? Four interceptions and fewer than 10 completions against a Philly defense which had kind of fallen apart in its previous four games certainly wasn’t going to help his chances of holding on to his job. John Beck came in to replace Grossman during the fourth quarter, and almost drove the R******* right back into the game, as you can see to the right.

But regardless of whether Grossman’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day was totally his fault, partially his teammates’ fault or just the result of an Eagles safety having a career day is irrelevant at this point — Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is examining his options. Shanahan says that he’ll make a decision by the middle of the week as to whether he’ll stick with Grossman or go with Beck by Wednesday. Beck is making a big push for the job; from the looks of things, it’d probably be a shock if Grossman will actually get to put his money were his mouth is for the rest of this season, even if he does get the call next week.

Of course, speaking of money, this is probably little solace to Redskins fans who plunked their money down on Beck getting the job out of training camp. (Man, people bet on weird stuff.) Question: when do we get to see the odds on whether Grossman’s benching is an indication that the Redskins season is headed down the tubes?
