Back in 1994, Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus snarkily sang that The Smashing Pumpkins “don’t have no function,” but plenty of Washingtonians apparently disagree, as the 9:30 Club has long been sold out for tonight’s performance by Billy Corgan and his current bandmates. Light FM and Fancy Space People open. Sold out. 7 p.m.
Apparently, local concertgoers have quite a hearty appetite for 1990s alt-rock, given that The Fillmore Silver Spring is also sold out as Bush arrive with their radio-friendly, unit-shifting Brit-grunge sound. Alt-metal trio Chevelle provides support. Sold out. 6:30 p.m.
>> Black Cat: John Maus, Big Troubles, Young Prisms. $10 advance / $12 doors. 8 p.m.
TUESDAY
Few contemporary indie bands convey as much sheer joy in playing live as Givers, a Louisiana-based quintet whose upbeat sound evinces shades of Talking Heads, Vampire Weekend and Dirty Projectors. Get a contact high from the group’s ebullient vibes at the Black Cat on Tuesday night as they share songs like the aptly-titled “Up Up Up”. Lord Huron and imagineIAM kick off the festivities. $13 in advance / $15 doors. 8 p.m.
>> DC9: Still Corners, Olivia Mancini, Meredith Bragg. $10 in advance / $12 doors. 9 p.m.
>> Sixth & I Historic Synagogue: Alexi Murdoch, Kishi Bashi. Sold out. 8 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
Baltimore’s Double Dagger are calling it quits after their current farewell tour, so the post-punk trio’s Wednesday performance at the Black Cat Backstage will be the last opportunity to catch their incendiary live show in D.C. before the group’s final blowout at their hometown’s Ottobar two nights later. Local noise-rockers Imperial China and Charm City grime-pop experimentalists Holy Ghost Party round out the bill. $10. 8 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: Minus the Bear, The Velvet Teen. $25. 7 p.m.

When Wild Flag made their local debut back in March, they had only released a couple of songs, but that did nothing to dampen the capacity crowd’s enthusiasm for the star-studded quartet’s electrifying performance. The Black Cat is sold out once again as Carrie Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony, and Janet Weiss return for an encore, this time touting their recently-issued self-titled debut LP. Arrive early to catch the opening set by Fiery Furnaces singer Eleanor Friedberger, who will showcase songs from her 1970s-flavored solo album, Last Summer. Sold out. 8 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: GWAR, Every Time I Die, Ghoul. $25. 7 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: The Rosebuds, Hospitality, The Moderate. $14. 8:30 p.m.
FRIDAY
As those who caught her ear-and-eye-catching set at this summer’s Pitchfork Music Festival can attest, Zola Jesus — née Nika Roza Danilova — performs with a captivating intensity, exuding a dynamic stage presence as commanding as her powerful, operatic vocals. Currently touring behind her latest record, Conatus, the 22-year-old singer will play the Black Cat on Friday night, dancing to the pulsating electro-goth beats of songs like “Vessel” and “Night”. Glitchcore producer Xanopticon offers a supporting set. $13 in advance / $15 doors. 9 p.m.
>> The Fillmore Silver Spring: Yonder Mountain String Band. $25. 8 p.m.

SATURDAY
On the heels of the September release of Only In Dreams, the full-length follow up to March’s He Gets Me High EP, Dum Dum Girls return for their second show at the Black Cat this year, showcasing their burgeoning catalog of stylishly retro-leaning indie-pop compositions along with a well-selected cover or two. Crocodiles and Royal Baths open. $15. 9.p.m.
>> The Fillmore Silver Spring: Wale. $23. 7 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Metronomy, Class Actress. $15. 9 p.m.

SUNDAY
Whether you think of them as charlatans or sensations, Odd Future are unquestionably one of the most (over)hyped hip-hop acts to emerge in quite some time. Predictably, the 9:30 Club will be at capacity when the L.A.-based collective unleashes its crass, volatile spectacle late on Sunday night. Sold out. 10 p.m.
>> Black Cat: The Damned, Legendary Shack Shakers. $25. 8 p.m.
