Montgomery County police announced this morning that they have found what they believe are the remains of missing 11-year-old William McQuain in a wooded area in Clarksburg, Maryland.
Police issued an Amber Alert for McQuain on October 13, after his mother, Jane, was found dead inside her Germantown residence that day. The boy had reportedly not been seen since September 30; video surveillance captured him with 45-year-old Curtis Lopez on October 1, who was later arrested in connection with Jane McQuain’s murder. Lopez is McQuain’s estranged husband, and had fled to North Carolina, but he will be extradited to Maryland for trial.
Police held a news conference this afternoon to announce that a police canine unit had discovered remains which match the clothes McQuain was last seen wearing, though they will need to conduct further tests to confirm that the remains are indeed the missing child.
