One of Kameny’s picket signs.GLAA Forum reports that the late gay rights pioneer Frank Kameny will lie in state in the Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square on November 3 between 3 and 8 p.m. The viewing is open to the public, and may include informal remarks by civic leaders.
Additionally, starting today the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History will display a collection of Kameny’s picket signs. The signs, which were donated to the Smithsonian in 2006, will be on display through January 16 in the Second Floor Center, Mall entrance.
Kameny’s friends and family are still organizing funds and arranging logistics for his funeral, for which a date has not yet been set.
