HALLOWEEN PARTY: DJ Questlove of The Roots provides the beats for the Brightest Young Things’ Night at the Newseum IV in 3D party (555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW). >> Clarendon Ballroom (3185 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington) hosts Elliot in the Morning’s Halloween Bash tonight. Work hard on your costume for a chance to win between $50 and $200 in prizes. Doors open at 5 p.m. Cover is $15 before 10 p.m., and $20 after.

HAUNTED FOREST: Wander around in the woods while chain-saw weilding maniacs, killer clowns and other monsters come at you from all sides at Markoff’s Haunted Forest (19120 Martinsburg Road, Dickerson, MD) tonight through Monday. 7-10:30 p.m. Tickets: $25.

THEATER Landless Theater Company presents their final two performances of Evil Dead: The Musical tonight at 10 p.m. and tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Frederick Cultural Arts Center (15 W. Patrick Street, Frederick, MD). Wear clothes appropriate for a gory splash zone. Tickets: $20.

MOVIE: The “October Spooktacular” Japanese horror movie series from the Japan Information and Culture Center (1150 18th Street NW) concludes tonight with a screening of The Great Yokai War, about a boy battling evil monsters. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Free, but RSVP required.

>> E Street Cinema (555 11th Street NW) offers two Halloween appropriate, but not Halloween-cliche, midnight movies tonight: the haunting classic The Fly and the cult favorite The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Midnight. $11 each.

>> As if Nosferatu isn’t creepy enough, AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring) makes it even more so by accompanying the silent film with a live orchestra. 9:30 p.m. $20.

TV: It’s the perfect weekend to watch episodes of Tales from the Crypt at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW). Tonight, pair two ghoulish episodes — Mute Witness to Murder and Television Terror — with drink specials. 7 p.m. Free.

DANCE: Ballet Hispanico combines ballet and modern dance moves on stage at the Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane North, Bethesda) tonight. 8 p.m. $22.50-$49.50

MUSIC: Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear plays solo at the Rock and Roll Hotel (1353 H Street NE) tonight. Luke Temple and Blood Orange also take the stage. 8 p.m. $12.

SATURDAY

PUMPKINS: Enjoy pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup and pumpkin cocktails while you carve your own pumpkin masterpiece at RIS (2275 L Street NW) this Saturday. FESTIVAL: The Ledroit Park Oktoberfest & Harvest Festival (3rd and Elm Street NW) might have you with these three words: Halloween Puppy Parade. But, if you need more, there will also be food trucks, pumpkin-carving, music, dancing, and more. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

TRICK-OR-TREATING: The Air & Scare indoor trick-or-treating event at the Udvar-Hazy Center (14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, VA) will feature crafts, science experiments, aliens and astronauts, stories and more. 2-8 p.m. Free admission, $15 for parking.

FITNESS: Project Fitness presents Bats on Bikes, a Halloween-themed bike tour of the D.C. monuments, kicking off from Flats 130 (130 M Street NE). 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Free to ride, $20 to rent a bike. Later that night join the crew for a costume party, with free food and drinks, from 7-9 p.m.

ART: Paint a mural, see a performance by dance group Urban Artistry, show off your costume, and more at the Monster Mash II at Garfield Park (2nd Street and Virginia Avenue SE). 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

HORSES: Free pony rides at the Washington International Horse Show Kids’ Day Saturday, along with horse shoe painting and other crafts, Georgetown Cupcakes, and more. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free.

FUNDRAISER: It takes a strong woman to fight breast cancer, so is the Barbells 4 Breast Cancer bench press competition at Fitness Together-Capitol Hill (408 H Street NE) this Saturday so strange? For every pound lifted, $1 will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. 8 a.m.- 5p.m.

COMEDY: The Daily Show’s John Oliver invades the Warner Theatre (513 13th Street NW) to deliver stand-up with a delightful British accent. 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $47.20.

MOVIES: Artisphere’s (1101 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington) Halloween Spooky Movie Saturday Night consists of two shiver-inducing films: 1959’s House on Haunted Hill at 9 p.m. and 1968’s Night of the Living Dead at 11 p.m. $8 each movie.

STORYTELLING: SpeakeasyDC presents “Boo: Stories about things that are scary” at the Dance Place (3225 8th Street NE). This night of “true stories about frightful encounters, terrifying moments, and spooky predicaments involving intruders, sharks, crazy basement ladies and other scary things” will put you in the perfect Halloween mood. Two shows: 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. $10 students, $22 public. While this event is adults-only, there will be a family-friendly version on Sunday.

HALLOWEEN PARTY: ChurchKey (1337 14th Street NW) is throwing a Halloween Bash this Saturday. Wear your best, most creative costume and you could win prizes like a private beer tasting for you and your friends, and rare beers from Greg Engert’s cellar. 8-11 p.m. Free entry.

>> The Passenger (1021 7th Street NW) presents Zombieopolis this Saturday, describing it simply as togas, tzatziki and terror. Come out for lamb on a spit and a best/worst costume contest. Doors 5 p.m., $10 cover starts at 7:30 p.m. (and includes food).

>> DJ Rekha mixes bhangra music with dancehall, dub, and hip-hop at Bhangraween 2011 at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) on Saturday. Zuzuka Poderosa, Rani Taj, and DJ Dredd also take the stage. 11 p.m. $18.

>> Surreal DC: A Magical Halloween Masquerade at Washington Harbour Georgetown (3050 K Street NW) is an evening of live music, art, belly dancers, a costume contest and more. 8 p.m.-2 a.m. $25 (includes open bar til 10 p.m.)

>> Nightmare on M Street spans three bars: The Front Page (1333 New Hampshire Avenue NW), McFadden’s (2401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW), and Mackey’s Pub (1823 L Street NW). Ticket holders get entrance to the bars, drink specials, and access to the midnight costume contest at McFadden’s. Tickets: $25. 5 p.m.-1 a.m.

MUSIC: Japanese band Boris plays the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) on Saturday with art-rockers Asobi Seksu and black-metal quartet Liturgy. 9 p.m. $15.

SUNDAY

FOOD & DRINK: Addie’s Oyster Roast (11120 Rockville Pike, Rockville) this Sunday is a feast of oysters prepared four ways (roasted, fried, shucked, and barbecued), plus other cookout favorites including BBQ chicken, chili and hot dogs. There will also be an oyster eating competition, costume contest, pumpkin decorating and live music from Free Word Live and Sean Chyun & the Deceivers. 12-5 p.m. $50 in advance, $60 at the door, $20 for kids under 12 (under 5 year olds free).

MARATHON: Not a runner, but like to support those who are? Come out and cheer on the racers in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon. Check out the route and some spectator tips here. 7:45 a.m.

VARIETY: The Tilted Torch Spook-o-Rama at the Red Palace (1212 H Street NE) is an evening of “horrifying hooping,” “eerily haunting belly dance,” and “wicked burlesque.” It’s also another chance to show off your costume. Doors 8:30 p.m., show 9 p.m. $10 in advance, $15 day-of.

MUSIC: Dynamic and engaging band Battles play the 9:30 Club (815 V Street) with Tokyo-based noise-rockers Nisennenmondai opening. 7 p.m. $20.
