Photo by philliefan99The ‘burbs of D.C. can be a harrowing place for the uninitiated. Things to fear: games of chicken with deer, falling trees, cougars on the hunt (the kind wearing leopard print skirts). So not too many eye brows were raised when several McLean Gardens residents spotted a large cat, supposedly a mountain lion, last week.
Animal control officers have not confirmed the the species of the large cat, however all three sightings have corroborated characteristics of a mountain lion. Although no injuries have been reported, officers have been dispatched to patrol the neighborhood, a precaution that we’ve seen before.
The Washington HumanHumane Society has gone as far as to suspect that since the presence of the large cat is very atypical, the animal could have been a released former-pet. Probably a keen word of advice: avoid suiting up in a small mammal costume this weekend.
